Fields of Green

Fields of Green

87% funded. Only $1,300 to go!

Overwhelmed. A word that typically walks hand in hand with stress. But today, I’m completely overwhelmed by the love my friends, family and others have shown me. It hits in waves and is beautiful and touching. You know who you are. Thank you.

Where I’m at Today

If you’ve been following this journey so far, you know my summer has been completely unexpected. When my plans to intern in Costa Rica were delayed, I prepared for valleys, but have found myself able to rest in fields of green by quiet streams.

As much as this summer wasn’t my plan, God has blessed me in numerous ways. I’ve continued to prepare for the internship (still working on my bilingual skills), but along way, I got to do a couple of things.

  1. I’ve worked at a daycare with 18, nine to eleven year olds (only three of them girls). One word. Exhausting. They ask me to play four-square with them, a game I haven’t played in years. I’m the ref of games I don’t even understand, and I hear “Miss Emily” in my ears even after I’m home. As crazy as the days are, seeing the kids light up when I get to work makes it worth it.

  2. When I’m not awarding positives and negatives, I’m home creating custom paintings to raise support, while watching One Tree Hill with my younger sister, Anneliese. This time with her has been so special. She’s 15, getting ready to start driving, entering her sophomore year, and I was able to be back home for another summer to experience all this with her.

  3. And you. Because of the delay, I’ve had the chance to share things that I didn’t think I would. Learn more about why I am going in the first place, and how to prepare. Learning about patience and reward. You’ve been with me even before the start. I’m excited to share the rest with you.

To those who have supported me by giving money, time and creativity, your generosity and belief gives me so much joy and gratitude.

I’m almost there. Just $1300 left to raise and they’ll let me board a plane to Costa Rica. To get to where I need to go on time, I’m going to purchase my flight Friday, July 28th. I’d be honored if you helped me get this last bit.

To make it easy, I’ve made it possible for you to use Venmo to send something quick. Use @emilyrypkema and give the description “costa rica” followed by your favorite string of emojis.

Of course, there’s still time to send a check. If you’d like to, please send to: Mt Horeb UMC ATTN: Penny Hutto 1205 Old Cherokee Rd Lexington, SC 29072

Again, I can’t thank you enough for everything. And can’t wait to share this next leg of my journey with you.
