My New Home!
Jacó, Costa Rica
I made it! It’s only been a week since the Barrett’s (Pastor Daniel, his wife Sarah and three boys: Thomas, Jacob, and Micah) met me in San Jose, but I already feel at home and extremely loved.
So far it’s been a week of settling in and getting to work. My little apartment is located at the Ocean’s Edge property and called “The Castle” (for real), it sits upstairs with a front porch. My favorite thing about is it's location. It's close to the church, the Barrett's, the beach, or the store—all less than five minutes away on my bike. (Yes I have a bike, it's pink with a basket and I love it.)
I've jumped straight into work—serving wherever and whenever needed. This has included feeding the homeless on Wednesday nights, helping Sarah at the Centro Prenatal where she ministers to the women while teaching them about motherhood, and Kids Club on Saturday mornings. Each day brings something unexpected or unplanned. From facing painting at Micah’s birthday party to attempting (emphasis on attempting) to design a logo for the youth group. I’ve already begun to learn how to stay flexible, use my talents, and let things happen.
Who I've met this week
There are two other interns on the property who have made me feel right at home. Ashley is my age, from California, will be here for one more week. She is completely unique and has the ability to make friends with anybody. We've gotten close just in these past 7 days because of how intentional she is, (she asks the best questions). Oh also, she speaks great Spanish. Kyle is also around my age and will be here until January. We’ve already developed a friendship centered around running and making fun of each other.
What God’s taught me
That He is always present—the still, small voice that surrounds us, the hope that have even when despair consumes us. He will never leave nor forsake me. Here I am, living in Costa Rica serving others and spreading God’s love when instead I thought I would be in PA school. Our plans are not always His, but I know this is where I am supposed to be and I know that He is with me.
What I’m looking forward to
I have the opportunity to come alongside Kyle and help Daniel start Horizon Church’s Youth Group. I'm very excited to be able to serve and love on the middle and high schoolers of Jacó.
Even from Costa Rica, I'm still working towards my funding goal for the trip. I only have $150 left to raise and I'll be set for the next six months.

I am eager to experience all the ministries that I will be apart of through Horizon Church throughout this next week but I also cannot wait to tell you all about them! I'll be updating photos regularly so you can see what I am up to! (Check out the few I've added so far)
